Yeah that’s the thing, it’s INCREDIBLE, and would be more so if it were denser/easier to get around!

As the cliche goes, Los Angeles is a great place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. It is my favorite place to go on vacation as a San Franciscan because it is so close and so cheap to visit. I usually stay downtown and take transit some. The Metro is at least as good as BART.

The great thing about visiting as a tourist is that you don't have to deal with traffic if you don't want to. If you get stuck on The Westside at 5 PM, as happened to me on my last visit, just park your car, walk around and have dinner. The incredible diversity of food, culture and entertainment means that I never get tired of exploring LA. Last time I discovered the Larchmont District, a little walkable commercial strip that reminds me of any number of neighborhoods in San Francisco, like 24th Street in Noe Valley.

While I would say that the food in LA is superlative, I would not say that it is better, except perhaps to say that good *cheap* food is much easier to find in LA. It is hard to get a bad mean in either place.
